Connecting your domain (nameservers, existing DNS records, and WHOIS)

Your site runs on your own domain name. Connecting it means pointing the domain at us — here's what that involves and the two things that most often need attention first.

Already have a domain, or need one?

When you set your domain, you'll choose either "I have an existing domain" or "I need help registering a domain." If you need one, we'll help you get it registered.

Step 1 — Update your nameservers

You'll be given a set of nameservers to enter at your domain registrar (GoDaddy, Namecheap, wherever you bought the domain). Log in there, replace the existing nameservers with the ones we show you, and save.

Once the nameservers are updated, your domain begins pointing at your site. Nameserver changes can take a little time to take effect across the internet, so don't worry if it isn't instant.

⚠️ If you already use your domain for email or another website

When you submit your domain, we scan it for existing DNS records. If we find any, you'll see a warning with the number of records detected and a link to view them.

This matters because changing your nameservers will remove those records unless we recreate them first — which can break things like your email, an existing website, or other services on that domain.

If you see this warning, contact support before making the change. We'll recreate the records you need so nothing breaks. There's a contact link right in the warning.

Step 2 — Update your domain WHOIS

Your domain's WHOIS contact information needs to be updated to the registrant and technical contact details we provide. This is a compliance requirement from our billing partners — they verify domain ownership as part of approving your site, so a mismatch here can hold up your approval.

Checking your progress

Your setup checklist tracks the domain step, so you can see at a glance whether it's complete. If something looks wrong after you've made the changes, give it time to propagate, then contact support (profile menu, top-right → Contact Us) with your domain name.
