Categories are how people browse your content, and your site has a Categories page where they can do exactly that — visitors on your tour as well as logged-in members. You decide whether that page appears at all, which categories are listed on it, what image represents each one, and which scenes belong to it.
First: turn the Categories page on
The Categories page is off by default. Nothing you do under Content → Categories will be visible to anyone until you add the page to your navigation:
- Go to Site → Structure.
- In the Navigation Menu box, open Navigation Items.
- Find Categories and click Show.
- Click Publish Changes.
This is the step creators most often miss. If you've set up categories and images but nobody can find them, start here. See Page structure: reordering sections, hiding sections, and editing your navigation.
Then set up your categories
Everything below is managed under Content → Categories.
Creating and editing a category
- Go to Content → Categories.
- Add a category, or click an existing one to edit it.
- Set the Category Name. The web address (slug) is generated automatically.
Use the filters and search at the top of the page to find a category quickly once your list grows.
Category images
Each category can have its own image — the picture visitors and members see representing it on your site.
- Upload your own — click to upload or drag and drop, then crop it and click Crop & Upload. JPEG, PNG, or WebP, up to 10 MB.
- Pick an existing image — selecting one saves immediately, no cropping step.
- Leave it empty — if you don't set an image, the latest scene's image in that category is used automatically, so the category always looks current.
Controlling where a category appears
Two separate settings decide a category's visibility. Both take effect when you save, so finish your edits before closing.
Show on Categories page
This controls whether an individual category is listed on your Categories page. Only categories with this turned on appear, and it's off by default — so the page starts empty and fills up as you choose what belongs on it. Turn it on for the categories you want people browsing, and leave it off for ones that only serve a custom page or section.
Remember this is the second of two switches: the Categories page must also be shown in your navigation (above), or nobody reaches it.
In your category list, each one is badged Shown or Not shown so you can see the state at a glance.
Excluded from updates (Unlisted)
A stronger setting: it keeps the category's scenes out of Latest Videos, search, related scenes, and performer pages, while custom pages and sections can still use it. Ideal for behind-the-scenes or interview content. See Unlisted categories: keeping extras out of your main feeds.
Special categories
A few category names have built-in meaning on the platform and are marked Special category when you open them: Premium, VOD, and Attachments (also called Messages).
Attachments is never shown on your site's Categories page, whatever the Show on Categories page setting says — it exists to hold content you send in chat, not to be browsed. If you open it and see the "Special category" note, that's why.
Managing attached scenes
You can manage a category's contents from the category itself, rather than scene by scene:
- Search scenes by title or alias and attach them — several at once if you like.
- Remove a scene from the category.
- If everything is already in, you'll see "All scenes are attached."
This is the fastest way to fill a new category. For the reverse — tagging many scenes at once from the Scenes page — see Bulk actions: editing many scenes at once.
Tips
- Remember visitors see this too. On your tour it's a discovery page for people deciding whether to join — so lead with the categories that best represent what you make, not just the biggest ones.
- Give categories an image if they're on your Categories page — a page of unillustrated text links converts poorly.
- Keep the list manageable: a few categories with real depth beat a long list with one scene each.
- After changing visibility or images, clear your cache if your site still shows the old state — see Content not showing up on your site? Clear the cache or refresh your content.
