The short video that plays when someone hovers a scene card normally comes from that scene's preview clips (video thumbnails). You can switch it to play your trailer instead — for your whole site, or for individual scenes.
Setting it for your whole site
- Go to Site → Details and find Card Thumbnails.
- Under Hover preview, choose:
- Preview clips — the default; uses each scene's video thumbnails.
- Trailer — plays the scene's trailer instead.
Either way it plays muted on hover, and on mobile it plays as visitors scroll past. Scenes without a trailer still show their preview clips, so nothing goes blank.
Setting it for one scene
You can override the site setting per scene. In the scene's trailer or thumbnail settings, use the Use trailer as hover preview switch.
- The switch starts out matching your site setting.
- Once you change it, that scene is marked Custom for this scene.
- Reset to site default puts it back under the site-wide setting.
- If the scene has no trailer, the switch is unavailable — add a trailer first.
The trade-off: file size
This is the part worth thinking about. Preview clips are usually 1–5 MB. Trailers are often far larger — sometimes 50MB+ at high resolution. The hover preview loads on every card in a grid, so a heavy trailer multiplies across the page.
The admin warns you about this:
- Turning it on site-wide shows a note that trailers use more bandwidth than preview clips.
- On an individual scene with a large trailer, you'll see its actual size and resolution — for example "This trailer is 84 MB (4K). Using it as the hover preview will slow down your site, especially on phones."
- For a very large trailer you'll get a confirmation prompt before it's enabled.
If you see those warnings, take them seriously — slow-loading grids cost you more visitors than a nicer hover preview wins.
Which should you use?
- Preview clips (default) — fastest, and purpose-built for this. Best for most sites, especially with large grids.
- Trailer — good when your trailers are short and light, or when you want hover previews to match exactly what a visitor sees when they press play.
- Mixed — leave the site on preview clips and switch on trailers only for a few standout scenes with small trailers.
Sections with their own setting
Two parts of your site can override this choice independently, in Site → Sections:
- Hero video on the slider-style hero banners — defaults to Use site setting, so it follows your choice here unless you change it.
- Upcoming video on your Upcoming section — defaults to Preview clip, so it does not follow this setting automatically. Switch it there too if you want trailers everywhere.
See Site sections and hero designs.
After changing it
Clear your cache and hard-refresh to see the change — see Content not showing up on your site? Clear the cache. For how the underlying preview clips work, see Video thumbnails: the preview that plays when you hover a scene.
